Center for Endovascular and Exovascular Therapy

Horowitz coilingThe Center for Endovascular and Exovascular Therapy, led by Michael Horowitz, MD, with collaboration from Drs. Amin Kassam, Tudor Jovin, Daniel Wecht, and Arlan Mintz, treats complex neurologic vascular lesions including aneurysm embolization/clipping, arteriovenous malformation, embolization/resection and tumor embolization.

Endovascular neurosurgery (aka interventional neuroradiology) is a subspecialty within the fields of radiology and neurosurgery that has as its goal the management and treatment of complex neurologic lesions using minimally invasive techniques. By threading small catheters through arteries and veins, the interventionalist is able to treat lesions from within rather than from without. The advantage of such therapy resides in the less invasive approach to the lesion which often translates into shorter recovery times and more effective therapy.

This center is a part of the University of Pittsburgh's Minimally Invasive endoNeursurgery Center (MINC). It also works closely with the UPMC Stroke Institute, directed by Lawrence Wechsler, MD.
