Tumor Embolization

Many tumors such as meningiomas, hemangioblastomas, renal cell metastases, and paragangliomas are hypervascular thus making surgical resection more difficult and time consuming. Embolization of the tumor preoperatively with particles, coils, and alcohol can make resection easier and faster.

(L) Right frontal meningioma (tumor); (M) Arteriogram showing blood supply to tumor prior to embolization; (R) Arteriogram showing blood supply to tumor after embolization.
