Biography

Pedro Aguilar, MD, joined the faculty of the Department of Neurosurgery at the University of Pittsburgh in July 2007. A native of north Texas, Dr. Aguilar received his bachelor of science from Texas A&M University in 1996 and his medical degree from The University of Texas-Houston in 2000. Following two years of general surgery training at The University of New Mexico, he completed training in neurosurgery at The University of Pittsburgh in 2007.

Dr. Aguilar is an assistant clinical professor in the Department of Neurosurgery and has a strong interest in both degenerative spinal pathology as well as pain management. He evaluates patients at the UPMC Pain Management Center based at UPMC Presbyterian. Dr. Aguilar also has a clinic at the UPMC Monroeville Multispecialty Center adjacent to the new UPMC Monroeville Imaging Center. Dr. Aguilar is able to further serve the community by speaking fluent Spanish.

Dr. Aguilar has a strong interest in both international medicine as well as the advancement of health care within the third world. In addition to having spent time at the CURE International Hospital in Mbale, Uganda, Dr. Aguilar is planning future trips to both Africa as well as South America. He is currently on the international committee of the Congress of Neurological Surgeons and is a member the Foundation for International Education in Neurological Surgery (FIENS)
