Biography

Larry Jenkins, PhD, joined the Brain Trauma Research Center within the Department of Neurological Surgery at the University of Pittsburgh in September 1998 and has been an adjunct faculty member in the Department of Neurobiology since 2000. He was promoted to professor in December of 2006.

Dr. Jenkins received his PhD in anatomy at the Medical College of Virginia where he also had postdoctoral training in cerebral blood flow physiology. From 1980 to 1993, he was a faculty member in the Division of Neurosurgery at the Medical College of Virginia and the Department of Anesthesiology at UTMB Galveston from 1993 to 1998. He was the secretary/treasurer of the National Neurotrauma Society for 2003 and is an associate director of the Safar Center for Resuscitation Research.

His primary research interests are in signal transduction injury mechanisms and proteomics of traumatic and ischemic brain injury. His current NIH funding examines the effect of hypothermia upon protein kinases and protein synthesis after experimental head injury. Dr. Jenkins has published 93 articles in refereed journals and 18 book chapters.
