August 22 , 2006 -- P. David Adelson, MD, was interviewed on the KDKA-TV (Pittsburgh) Evening News, August 22, regarding football-related injuries in young athletes.
The news report discussed the increased number of reported injuries in the sport -- double in the last five years at Children's Hospital of Pittsburgh -- and suggestions to help prevent them.
In discussing the troublesome trend, Dr. Adelson said, "I think part of it is that they are bigger and stronger and that, unfortunately, translates sometimes into increased injuries."
The report reminded players and parents to play it safe and suggested that a large number of these injuries -- head injuries, fractures, torn ligaments, etc. -- are preventable with proper preparation and precautions.
Dr. Adelson was also interviewed on WPXI-TV (Pittsburgh) and in the Pittsburgh Tribune Review for similar reports. |
