Endonasal Procedure Featured on WTAE-TV News

Pittsburgh, February 15, 2006 -- The minimally invasive neurosurgical technique of accessing the brain through the nose pioneered by University of Pittsburgh physicians Amin Kassam, MD and Carl Snyderman, MD, was featured on the WTAE-TV (Pittsburgh) Channel 4 News, February 15. The procedure, dubbed the Expanded Endonasal Approach (EEA) was utilized to treat a difficult aneurysm in a patient.

With the Expanded Endonasal Approach, neurosurgeons can approach the brain through the nasal cavities. This technique affords the patient an early discharge from the hospital with no incisions or scars and few, if any, lingering side effects.
