Adelson Named A. Leland Albright Professor

Pittsburgh, February 1, 2007 -- Department of Neurological Surgery professor P. David Adelson, MD, has been named recipient of the A. Leland Albright Endowed Chair of Pediatric Neurosurgery at the University of Pittsburgh, effective February 1.

Dr. Adelson is director of Pediatric Neurotrauma at Children's Hospital of Pittsburgh, director of surgical epilepsy at the University of Pittsburgh Epilepsy Center, and co-director of the Brachial Plexus and Peripheral Nerve Injury Center at Children's Hospital of Pittsburgh. He is also vice chairman for research with the department as well as director for the The Walter Copeland Neurosurgical Research Laboratory.

The Albright Endowed Chair honors the career accomplishments of A. Leland Albright, MD, former chief of neurosurgery at Children's Hospital of Pittsburgh. Throughout his 30+ year career in pediatric neurosurgery, Dr. Albright has been widely hailed for his advancement of the treatment of children with movement disorders and spasticity. In 1996, he established the multi-disciplinary Spasticity and Movement Disorders Clinic at Children's Hospital of Pittsburgh, one of the leading clinics of its type in the world

An endowed chair confers special recognition to the holder of the chair and provides annual benefit to the holder by facilitating his or her work. The Albright Chair is one of five neurosurgery chairs held at the University of Pittsburgh.
