C. Edward Dixon Named Vice Chairman of Research

Pittsburgh, December 20, 2008 -- C. Edward Dixon, PhD, professor of neurological surgery, anesthesiology, neurobiology and physical medicine and rehabilitation at the University of Pittsburgh, has been named vice chairman of research for the Department of Neurological Surgery.

Dr. Dixon joined the faculty at the University of Pittsburgh in 1995 and has been involved in numerous research programs at the university particularly in the area of traumatic brain injury. In addition to his position as vice chairman of research, Dr. Dixon is also director of the department's Brain Trauma Research Center and associate director of the university's Safar Center for Resuscitative Research. He is also extensively involved with the National Neurotrauma Society.

Dr. Dixon takes over for P. David Adelson, MD, who recently accepted a position with Phoenix Children's Hospital as chief of pediatric neurosurgery and director of their Children's Neuroscience Institute.
