Pittsburgh, February 14, 2008 -- P. David Adelson, MD, A. Leland Albright Professor of Neurosurgery and director of the University of Pittsburgh's Surgical Epilepsy Center, was featured on the WTAE-TV (Pittsburgh) Evening News, February 14, discussing the use of advanced brain mapping to help treat epilepsy in children.
The news report focused on a young boy suffering from seizures since birth. The child was taking multiple medications for his seizures -- which were not working -- and he was suffering developmental delays.
In the brain mapping technique, Dr. Adelson placed electrodes on the child's brain to pinpoint the source of the seizures. Once located, the small offending area was removed. The child has not had a seizure since the procedure.
