Pittsburgh, November 14, 2008 -- Anthony Fabio, MPH, PhD, assistant professor of neurosurgery, has been named director of the Center of Injury Research and Control (CIRCL) at the University of Pittsburgh.

Dr. Fabio joined the faculty of the Department of Neurological Surgery in May 2000 and was named associate director of CIRCL in February of 2008. His main area of interest includes understanding the social causes and correlates of violence as well as the community and individual level correlates of violence trends. He also works in a variety of other areas including traumatic brain injury.

Dr. Fabio takes over for P. David Adelson, MD, who recently accepted a position with Phoenix Children's Hospital as chief of pediatric neurosurgery and director of their Children's Neuroscience Institute.
