Department Rated Among Best in Country
Pittsburgh, July 17, 2012 --The University of Pittsburgh Department of Neurological Surgery ranked among the top 10 best neurosurgery programs in the country in a recent poll published in U.S. News & World Report magazine. The rankings appear as part of the magazine's annual "America's Best Hospitals" article analyzing over 200 top medical centers in 17 specialties.
The issue also ranked UPMC among the top 10 best medical centers in the country and the highest ranked medical center in Pennsylvania.
“This national recognition is a testament to the skill and dedication of our physicians, nurses and staff and to the superb care they provide every day at UPMC.” said Elizabeth Concordia, executive vice president of UPMC and president of the Hospital and Community Services Division. " Our patients and our community have come to expect this level of excellence and we are committed to assuring we deliver. Our proudest achievements come when we make a difference in the lives and health of our patients. When patients require care, the choice is clear; the nation’s best care is here at UPMC.”
According to the magazine, "The medical centers in the Best Hospitals Honor Roll are members of an unusually exclusive club, one that makes up less than 0.4 percent of the nearly 5,000 hospitals nationwide that U.S. News evaluated for the 2012-13 rankings. The 17 hospitals on the list, most of them household names, excel across a broad spectrum of patient care, scoring at or near the top this year in at least six of the 16 Best Hospitals medical specialties
