Wecht Named Neurosurgery Chief at UPMC Shadyside

Dan WechtPittsburgh, July 1, 2013 -- Daniel A. Wecht, MD, MSc, clinical professor of neurological surgery at the University of Pittsburgh, has been named chief of neurosurgery at UPMC Shadyside, effective July 1. A graduate of Harvard University, Dr. Wecht has been with the department since 1999 and is also chief of neurosurgery at UPMC McKeesport and UPMC St. Margaret. 

Dr. Wecht specializes in the treatment of brain tumors and cerebrovascular diseases, such as stroke, aneurysms and vascular malformations. He also has an active spine and general neurosurgery practice and serves as team neurosurgeon for the Pittsburgh Penguins.

Dr. Wecht succeeds David Zorub, MD. In making the announcement of Dr. Wecht's appointment, Robert M. Friedlander, MD, chairman of the University of Pittsburgh Department of Neurological Surgery, cited Dr. Zorub for his "outstanding leadership and wise direction for the neurosurgical service line at Shadyside for many years. I thank him for his commitment and effort on behalf of the specialty and thank him for his years of service."
