The Department of Neurosurgery at the Children's Hospital of Pittsburgh is actively involved in the University of Pittsburgh and Children's Hospital of Pittsburgh's Comprehensive Epilepsy Center. This multidisciplinary center evaluates and treats children and adults with all types of seizures and seizure disorders.
This team includes pediatric neurosurgery, pediatric neurology, neuropsychology, language and communication disorders, child development, physical and occupational therapy, neuroradiology, and nuclear medicine. The Children's Hospital of Pittsburgh and University of Pittsburgh Medical Center have the state-of-the-art resources for the evaluation and treatment of children with seizure disorders. These include the latest generation MRI scanners, SPECT, PET, MR spectroscopy, and digital video EEG monitoring suites and the latest techniques for identifying and surgically treating intractable seizures in children.
Following evaluation by the Epilepsy Center, the team meets and discusses your child as to the medical and/or surgical considerations.
