Project Summary:
The aim of this study is to collect pilot data and establish study protocols for developing a larger-national multicenter study to evaluate surgical approaches and outcomes in surgery for patients with Chiari type 1 malformation and syringomyelia.
This study will recruit subjects with documented Chiari type 1 malformation and syringomyelia who present for evaluation of their condition. From eligible subjects, the study will collect data on the characteristics of subjects who ultimately undergo surgical intervention. From those subjects who have surgery, characteristics which predict favorable surgical outcome will be tracked.
This study will collect pre-surgical and post-surgical data, and it will itself involve no intervention other than data collection. The primary endpoint is improvement or resolution of the syrinx. Secondary endpoints are improvement of clinical suymptoms and signs, and other MRI criteria such as CSF flow. |
