Park Reeves Syringomyelia Research Consortium

Funding Agency:

Washington University-Park Reeves

Total Project Period:

5/01/11 - 4/30/13

Total Project Award:

$1,100 per patient

Principal Investigator:

Mandeep Tamber, MD, PhD

Project Summary:

There are large gaps in the understanding of the incidence, natural history, and short and long term treatment outcomes of Cm (Chiari I Malformation) and SM (Syringomyelia). The reasons for these voids are caried-lack of MRI at the time of most epidemiological studies, low numbers of patients at any given institution, and paucity of large-sale and long-term studies.

Park Reeves Syringomyelia Research Consortium (PRSRCC) is a North American multi-center research effort to address these issues in Cm and SM research by...

  1. creating a multi functonal SM disease registry to study the disorder, its natural history, and clinical course following treatment in a large number of patients, and
  2. use advanced magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) techniques to study the pathophysiology of the condition.
