CTE Needs More, Balanced Research

February 11, 2015 -- A team of UPMC researchers, lead by Dr. Joseph Maroon, found double-reported cases along with a need for more and better longitudinal research into Chronic Traumatic Encephalopathy (CTE). Their review of all scientifically published case studies from 1954-2013 found just 149 individual reported cases from 262 total cases in medical literature -- 113 were double-reported. Given their findings, Dr. Maroon said, "the exaggerated fears surrounding CTE may be misplaced."
