The Westmoreland County Community Neurosurgery Center, directed by Michael Rutigliano, MD and assisted by Matthew Wetzel, MD, brings the clinical expertise and reputation for excellence of the University of Pittsburgh Medical Center to the eastern suburbs. Working in close collaboration with the area's well respected primary care physicians, Westmoreland County Community Neurosurgery Center provides comprehensive neurosurgical patient care at the region's leading community hospitals. These cooperative relationships have facilitated positive patient outcomes and improved access to highly trained specialist care in Westmoreland County.
Both Dr. Rutigliano and Dr. Wetzel were educated and trained at the University of Pittsburgh Medical Center. The two have clinical expertise in all areas of general neurosurgery spanning the areas of general spine (cervical/thoracic/lumbar discectomy, laminectomy); complex spine (spinal fusion and instrumentation); peripheral nerve surgery (carpal tunnel syndrome and ulnar decompression); brain and spinal tumor surgery.
Diagnosis, treatment and ongoing care related to these conditions can be managed within the Westmoreland County community setting. This promotes patient comfort by offering clinical excellence, and the support of family and friends, in a setting close to home. To this date, nearly 1000 patients have chosen to have their operative procedures performed at our satellite facilities.
