Pittsburgh, October 30, 2023 -- Marco Capogrosso, PhD, assistant professor of neurological surgery and director of the University of Pittsburgh’s Spinal Cord Stimulation Laboratory has been named recipient of a 2023 Young Investigator Award from the Society of Neuroscience. The award, funded by Sumitomo Pharma America, Inc., recognizes outstanding achievements and contributions by early career neuroscientists who have demonstrated scholarly independence.
Dr. Capogrosso—working with Peter Gerszten, MD, and researchers from Carnegie Mellon University—has been at the forefront of spinal cord stimulator research, helping restore hand and arm function in stroke patients suffering from paralysis.
Dr. Capogrosso is the first scientist from the University of Pittsburgh to win a SfN Young Investigator Award. Past award recipients include nobel laureate Ardem Patapouitian, PhD, as well as distinguished neuroscientists Karl Deisseroth, MD, PhD; Ed Boyeden, PhD; and Rui Costa, DVM, PhD.
