Agarwal Wins 2018 JANE Award

Nitin AgarwalPittsburgh, January 16, 2018 -- Fourth-year resident Nitin Agarwal, MD, was announced as the 2018 recipient of the AANS/CNS Joint Section on Disorders of the Spine and Peripheral Nerves JANE (Journalistic And Academic Neurosurgical Excellence) Award for his paper entitled "Lateral Lumbar Interbody Fusion in the Elderly: A 10-Year experience.” 

According to the organization’s website, “The JANE award is given annually to a senior neurosurgical resident or fellow in an accredited North American neurosurgical training program who has performed at an exemplary academic level: achieving top manuscript submitted to the Spine Summit annual meeting and displaying a commitment to advancement of the specialty via research and publications over the prior 12 months.” 

Dr. Agarwal is heavily involved in publishing. To date, he has published over 125 peer-reviewed articles, 10 book chapters as well as spoken at several regional and national conferences, with over 100 oral and poster presentations. Dr. Agarwal’s health literary related research has been published in several high impact factor journals including JAMA Internal Medicine and featured by prominent healthcare oriented news outlets such as Reuters Health. He is also the co-editor of the book The Evolution of Health Literacy: Empowering Patients through Improved Education.

Dr. Agarwal will deliver his paper during the scientific program at the group’s 2018 Spine Summit meeting, March 15-17 in Orlando, Fla.
