Friedlander Honored as Doctor of Distinction

Pittsburgh, September 8, 2016 -- Department chairman Robert Friedlander, MD, was honored as a ‘Doctor of Distinction’ by the Ladies Hospital Aid Society at the group’s 118th Brain Gain Gala fundraiser, held September 8 at Pittsburgh’s Carnegie Music Hall.

The event was held to benefit the University of Pittsburgh Brain Institute and the UPMC Neurological Institute with proceeds from the event used to help bring new and innovative science into patient care.

Other Doctors of Distinction awardees were David A. Lewis, MD, Peter L. Strick, PhD, and Lawrence R. Wechsler, MD. Freddie Fu, MD, was honored with the Distinguished Medical Educator Award, while scientist Marlene Behrmann, PhD, of Carnegie Mellon University was named the Excellence in Education awardee.

Past awardees of the LHAS’s Doctor of Distinction honor include Michael W. Collins, PhD, Stanley M. Marks, MD, Joseph C. Maroon, MD, Thomas E. Starzl, MD, PhD, and Marshall W. Webster, MD.

Established in 1898, the Ladies Hospital Aid Society has been providing educational, financial, medical and social services to individuals and families in western Pennsylvania for over 115 years. The group has raised over $15,000,000 and has volunteered several million work hours since its inception, and allocates more than $350,000 annually for research and other projects.
