Hadjipanayis Elected Tumor Section Chair

Costas HadjipanayisPittsburgh, May 13, 2024 -- Costas G. Hadjipanayis, MD, PhD, L. Dade Lunsford Professor at the University of Pittsburgh and director of the UPMC Center for Image-Guided Neurosurgery, has been elected as the new chair of the AANS/CNS Section on Tumors by the section's executive committee. The Section on Tumors—the largest organized group of neurosurgical oncologists in the world—has a 40-year history of advocating and promoting patient care, research and education in the field of neurosurgical oncology.

A world-renown expert in brain tumors and stereotactic radiosurgery, Dr. Hadjipanayis has been the principal investigator of multiple clinical trials and university, private foundation, and NIH-funded grants focused on brain tumors. He serves as co-director of the University of Pittsburgh Department of Neurological Surgery's Brain Tumor Program and also directs the Brain Tumor Nanotechnology Laboratory at the UPMC Hillman Cancer Center.
