Wade Pingel, MD

Wade Pingel, MD, joined the University of Pittsburgh Department of Neurological Surgery residency program on July 1, 2026, after earning his medical degree from the University of Iowa Carver College of Medicine. He previously completed his undergraduate studies with a double major in Biochemistry and Biology, as well as a Division 1 track and field athlete at the University of Northern Iowa.

During medical school, Dr. Pingel cultivated a strong academic interest in neurosurgical device outcome research leveraging his past career with medical devices. He became heavily involved in the Department of Neurosurgery at the University of Iowa Hospitals and Clinics. Under the guidance of Dr. Jeremy Greenlee MD and Dr. Mattew Howard, MD researching the use of minimally invasive devices for intraventricular tumors in adult and pediatric populations. Additionally, he spent efforts analyzing the cost efficiencies and single-use device waste in the neuroendovascular suite alongside Dr. Kathleen Dlouhy, MD.  Dr. Pingel’s also worked heavily alongside nationally renowned researcher Dr. Terry Wahls, MD analyzing the effects of specific diet’s as augmented treatment to demyelination diseases such as Multiple Sclerosis. Dr. Pingel’s research endeavors resulted in multiple published papers and national oral and poster presentations.

Dr. Pingel was born in Worthington, MN and grew up in Pella, Iowa. Enjoys Track and Field, Ironman Events, Hunting & Fishing, spending time with his wife, son and two dogs.
