Pittsburgh, September 9, 2026 — The University of Pittsburgh and UPMC placed fourth among all institutions in the Top Institution with Selected Abstracts competition for the 2026 Congress of Neurological Surgeons Annual Meeting, with 111 abstracts accepted for presentation.
The abstracts came from faculty, residents, fellows, and students across the Department, spanning neurotrauma, neuro-oncology, cerebrovascular surgery, spine, functional neurosurgery, and pediatric neurosurgery.
"This award underscores the sheer strength and breadth of neuroscience investigations within this Department," said Edith Tzeng, MD, interim chair of the Department of Neurological Surgery. "It would not be possible without the vast intra- and interdisciplinary collaborations that are the hallmark of our institution."
The award will be recognized during the Wednesday morning General Scientific Session at the CNS Annual Meeting, held October 31 to November 4, 2026, in Washington, DC, where the Department will be represented.
The Congress of Neurological Surgeons Annual Meeting is one of the largest scientific meetings in organized neurosurgery, and abstract selection is competitive across thousands of international submissions.
