John Paul Kolcun, MD

  • Post-Residency Spine Fellow

John Paul G. Kolcun, MD, is a native of Jacksonville, FL who studied Psychology at Florida State University before completing his medical degree at the University of Miami. He then went on to complete residency training in neurological surgery at Rush University Medical Center in Chicago, IL. During medical school, he developed a deep interest in the treatment of spinal disorders, particularly spine trauma and spinal cord injury. In residency, he led a group effort to introduce spinal cord perfusion pressure management for acute spinal cord injury in his department, and led a project attempting to quantify regional bloodflow to compressed segments of the cervical spinal cord in patients with myelopathy, using an MRI perfusion sequence developed for the cervical spine. Dr. Kolcun plans to continue his work in spinal cord injury and neurotrauma management, as well as the application of minimally-invasive surgical techniques for the treatment of complex and degenerative pathologies.
