Deng Named Recipient of ThinkFirst Award

Hansen DengPittsburgh, January 17, 2020 -- PGY-1 resident Hansen Deng, MD, has been named recipient of the 2020 ThinkFirst Injury Prevention Award from the American Association of Neurological Surgeons (AANS) for his abstract “B-cell Lymphoma 2 (BCL2) Single Nucleotide Polymorphism Is Associated with Intracranial Hypertension in a Prospective Cohort of sTBI.”

The award is given by the AANS in coordination with the ThinkFirst Foundation for the best paper dealing with traumatic brain injury. The foundation was established by the AANS and the Congress of Neurological Surgeons (CNS) in 1986 with the mission of preventing brain, spinal cord and other traumatic injury through education, research and advocacy.

Dr. Deng—who received guidance from David O. Okonkwo, MD, PhD, and Ava M. Puccio, RN, PhD, from the Brain Trauma Research Center on the paper—will present his work at the AANS annual scientific meeting in Boston, April 25-29.
