Pittsburgh, April 27, 2026 — Faculty from the University of Pittsburgh Department of Neurological Surgery have launched a new inpatient tele-neurosurgery consultation service at UPMC Washington, extending subspecialty expertise in spine and intracranial care to hospitalized patients in Washington County.
Using secure video technology, Pitt Neurosurgery specialists provide real-time consultations at the bedside in collaboration with the hospital's care team. Advanced practice providers specializing in neurosurgery lead the consults, supported by attending faculty Vincent Miele, MD, Edward Andrews, MD, and David Fernandes Cabral, MD. The model delivers timely subspecialty input without requiring patient transfer for consultation alone.
The service is delivered through the UPMC Department of Neurosurgery, part of the UPMC Neurological Institute, and reflects the department's continued effort to broaden access to advanced neurosurgical care across the communities UPMC serves.
