Pittsburgh, June 22, 2026 — Residents in the University of Pittsburgh Department of Neurological Surgery were recognized with awards and subspecialty fellowship completions at the department's annual celebration.
Dr. Sharath Anand and Dr. Sakibul Huq tied for the Highest ABNS Score Award, which recognizes top performance on the American Board of Neurological Surgery examination, presented by Dr. Pascal Zinn. Dr. Zinn also presented the Resident Teaching Award to Dr. Hansen Deng. Dr. Joseph Maroon presented the Aequanimitas Award, which honors humility, compassion, and excellent patient care, to Dr. Ali Alattar.
The graduating residents also completed subspecialty fellowship training during their residency, recognized with completion certificates at the event:
- Dr. Deng completed fellowships in sports neurosurgery, AO Spine, complex spine, and neurosurgical oncology.
- Dr. Joseph Hudson completed fellowships in sports neurosurgery, AO Spine, and CAST complex spine.
- Dr. Andrew Legarreta completed fellowships in sports neurosurgery, AO Spine, and complex spine.
- Dr. Alattar completed a fellowship in skull base surgery.
The graduating residents will continue their careers at the following institutions:
- Dr. Deng will join the University of California, Davis.
- Dr. Hudson will join the University of Tennessee and the Semmes Murphy Clinic.
- Dr. Legarreta will join University at Buffalo Neurosurgery.
- Dr. Alattar will join Sutter Health in San Francisco.
The department congratulates its graduating residents, Drs. Hansen Deng, Joseph Hudson, Andrew Legarreta, and Ali Alattar, on the completion of their residency training.
